Functional Neurological Disorders & The Spirit of Illness

I deal daily in mysterious conditions in my shamanic practice – these might be ongoing physical and soul body conditions that continue to entangle the subject.  Occasionally, the individual has had all the physical tests, but nothing is showing up on the scans or on examination. Some mysterious conditions invariably produce ongoing and unremitting physical symptoms, but these do not yield to ordinary medical treatment. Things like traumatic voice- or hearing-loss, or a range of odd behaviours may be going on in addition.  In the past. many of these conditions were known, slightingly, as ‘psychosomatic,’ or ‘hysterical.’ Fortunately, medical science, thanks to neurologists and others, now knows these conditions as  ‘functional neurological disorders.’ (or FNDs, which I will use throughout).
