Thanks for this post. As a child l would read my brother’s beautifully illustrated book Life in the Ancient World which included Assyria. It’s a wonder to me how anyone learned to interpret cuneiform. I’ll check out the books. There’s a podcast called Fall of Civilisations that you and others might enjoy.
Thank you for this, including the book recommendations. I’m an armchair historian. I’ve always been fascinated by Mesopotamia but have had trouble finding good books on the subject. I just pre-ordered “Between the Two Rivers” and purchased “The Library of Ancient Wisdom.” Looking forward to diving in!
I too am a huge fan of the ancient cultures. In fact… I too practice the ritual arts (with rituals that I have recreated using original texts) dating back to Sumeria and the Mesopotamia period. I am working on a calendar (weekly planner) in alignment with the ancient Sumerian calendar, complete with their festivals and the process for initiation into their sacred arts. (Which is a seven month long process just to be accepted as a student). Their culture and rituals are far more evolved and balanced (with all prayers asking for the initiate to state their god and goddess). And even have male and female archetype for each of the primary deities and planets. Thankfully, they wrote and documented their practices on clay tablets, that stood the test of time!

Thank you. There's a lot more cunieform still to read and I so look forward to more stories and wisdom!

These books really complement each other so well!

Excellent post. And what's up with museums charging exorbitant prices to show their art in books? I thought their mission was to educate.
